For Maria CookSusan has over twenty four years of legal experience and is admitted to practice law in Colorado and California. She spent the first six years of her legal career in Northern California where she worked in a large Bay Area litigation firm that specialized in the areas of product liability defense. She later worked in the areas of insurance defense and personal injury, tort and employment in boutique law firms. Susan moved to Colorado in 1997, and worked as a senior associate and later became a partner in a small firm in Denver working primarily in family law.  In 2008, she opened her own office where she works with clients almost exclusively in the practice area of family law.

Susan’s background as a litigator, along with her experience and strong interpersonal skills, enable her to work effectively with a broad range of clients and issues and gives her a unique perspective in family law work. She knows it is always best for families and couples going through the divorce process to resolve their issues without the need for litigation, through compromise and collaboration. However, in cases where litigation is the right alternative, Susan has the advocacy skills and courtroom experience to prepare and proceed through trial with her clients. She is a very compassionate and effective advocate.

When not practicing law or working for all families in her service on the Jefferson County School Board, she enjoys skiing, mountain biking and playing soccer in addition to supporting her children’s activities and educational pursuits.
